RFC: Improving the Textpattern demo site

Hello, everyone.

In 2014, I built a Textpattern demo. The aim was to provide a platform for existing and potential users of Textpattern to use the current and upcoming versions of Textpattern in an environment that resets itself every three hours.

Two years is a long time on the Internet and I am intending to rebuild the demo site during 2016. There are some extra features and changes I want to include:

Front side

logins for each grade of Textpattern user
better support for Files and Images
native language support for most popular languages (provisionally en, fr, es, de and nl)
include demo of the Textpattern default theme with all/most of its extra features
SSL (https) throughout

Behind the scenes

North America, Europe and Asia locations
fully container’d servers

This list is not comprehensive, and I am asking for your help to populate it with additional features that would be beneficial to you.

I am especially interested in features/functionality for non-English language speakers.

If you’re happy with the demo site as it is right now: great news.

If you would like to see extra things in it: tell me here, and I’ll see what we can do about it.

I will explain my statement in some more detail.

I am a native English speaker, and I know many Textpattern users do not use English as their primary language.

I use Textpattern in English language, and the demo site is currently English language as a default, though other languages can be enabled in the Textpattern admin area.

My request for feature ideas and suggestions is for anything that might be useful or helpful, and especially for features or ideas that relate to non-English language users. What would be helpful for you? Is there anything you wish to see on a Textpattern demo site?

If the other languages can be enabled in the admin area, so I can’t imagine what more would be even necessary.

The language change works in the 4.6 beta 2, but it produces a (false?) alert:

No locale available for language es-es. Using default locale instead.

It would also be handy for me to have other language demo sites available. I can’t do local testing of some languages (primarily RTL ones) due to MacOS limitations.

Nope, that used to be the case but Ruud fixed that a while ago. Now you get a message “No locale available for language XX-XX. Using default locale instead.” (which means the default in unix terms). In practice, everything works fine for farsi, arabic (hebrew never had this problem…) – except of course the translations are not complete (arabic being in a better state). The only issue you might have is failure in localised dates I think. Nothing that would prevent you from extensive testing of layout issues.

How do you think I tested / filed bugs for RTL languages?

Indeed, you’d have everything you need, AFAICS.

It is a warning. See this post by Gocom for an explanation.

Hi,

Decided to try out 4.6 on the demo site, and the admin side is stuck on the languages section.

These errors are on the top of the page:

User_Error “Truncated incorrect date value: ’0000-00-00’”
