QuikPik Menu 2.0

I decided I couldn’t leave well enough alone and created version 2.0 of the QuikPik menu. The menu now uses ALA’s Suckerfish Dropdowns and has several more options with one click access to your stylesheets, pages, forms and recent articles. Selecting any item from the menus will open it in edit mode.

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

I like it. Alot. It looks fine in Firefox 1.0, and works wonderfully.

Kudos, Wilshire.

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

It is working pretty well with g19.

How would you integrate Albumpattern with this?

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

I just posted a slightly updated version. Really just CSS cleanup and a fix for an issue with the background image on the menu not showing properly. So its no longer necessary to use the background image thats included in the distribution.

Has anyone else used the Suckerfish Dropdown technique and had this problem?

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

I love this!

I just noticed – there’s no “view site” button. Granted, it’s not necessary, but I’m used to it.

Just wondering if it was forgotten or purposely left out…

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

Shouldn’t be #nav li li {line-height: 1*px* ;} ? Or even better some more, like 5px or 0.5em.
Otherwise with just 1 if you have many items, the menu is too long for most small screen resolutions.

I also vote for ‘view site’ button.

Edit: no, 5px or 0.5em is too little for Recent Articles menu. 0.8em is fine.

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

Jennifer – It was just forgotten, not intentional. Its now been added.

ChrisJ – Luckily I saw your post just before I uploaded a new version so I fixed that CSS as well. Those were intended to be em’s, I just neglected to actually type it.

Thanks for the feedback!

Re: QuikPik Menu 2.0

Thanks for the update wilshire. I had menu background problems with your original version. This new version works great. I have made some mods to it though as I only use a screen resolution of 1024 × 768 and the 86em width you are using is way too wide for me. I’ve reduced this to 70em and reduced the menu width to 14em and everything fits fine. The narrower menu width may give some extra wrapping but I only get this in the form menu and I was getting it anyway at the original width.

Having the latest version means that I also have the view site option. I noticed that you have this set to use the existing window/tab. I realise that this is the correct way to do things but I prefer the original setup of having a separate site window/tab, particularly when I’m messing with CSS or positioning. I find that sometimes I can see things better if I can do my alterations then refresh the site window and see the changes as they occur. Just my preference so I’ve modified it.

An excellent hack for the admin. Thankyou.
