+1 for Linode. Lots of features and excellent support.
I’ve also got a few servers at Inception hosting (1GB RAM, 4 cores, 1TB data, 55GB hd for €7.50).
And from the same owner, but a bit more technically challenging: Little Happy Cloud (1GB, 1 core, 1TB data, 24GB ssd-hd for €3.00, although you have to pay at least per quarter and preferably need to know a bit about IPv6)
And if you’re looking for hosting in the Netherlands, have a look at TransIP (1GB RAM, 1 core, 1TB data, 50GB ssd for €10.00). No experience with them myself, but they appear to have a good reputation.
All these are self-managed.

Thanks. Updated my grid above with a few of the suggestions. Moderators feel free to just go in and correct what’s missing or wrong.

Updated the grid. Having said that, I think it’s pointless to do this here as there are many other websites focussed on rating hosting services.

Re: Any Digital Ocean users?
Ruud, totally agree. It’s really an exercise for myself, as I’m trying to find a new long-term home. I just thought I’d share the fruits of my misery.
On the other hand, a sticky post titled “Community picks for top 10 web hosts” maintained over time by moderators would be a useful thing. There’s only a zillion (at least a dozen) forum posts over the years of people asking about hosting. We could provide a catered view of the tip of the ice berg, not the whole Icelandic shelf.

Re: Any Digital Ocean users?
DOcean question…
Regarding team accounts, can an owner restrict team members from a particular domain?
For example, let’s say you had three domains setup and wanted this arrangement with team management:
- site1.tld (team)
- site 2.tld (team)
- site 3.tld (owner only)
Is that possible? It kind of looks from the doc linked above that being a member gives you access to anything on the droplet and there’s no finer-grained control. Yes/No?

Counterpoint: they’ve been hacked a bunch of times in the past few years, and are currently in week 2 or 3 of a relentless DDOS.
Anecdotally, they have a slight edge over DO performance-wise, but that’s me telling stories from before the current DDOS.
