"TEXTPATTERN SOLUTIONS" Book Question

In the book it says – when using Xampp you want to do in the hosts file

127.0.0.1 localhost example.dev

the book says to add on example.dev at the end of the line. page 32. It says to change the textpattern folder to example.dev… and put it in Xampps doc root.it’s all in the book. Did it all.

Then the book says if you just put example.dev into the browser it’ll go to the testpattern “home”.

But it does not. example.dev just takes me to the Xammp start page. localhost/example.dev has the “action” the book expects, but not just http://example.dev.

So I need some clarification. What is the book (or me) doing wrong? You might need to look at the book to see what they are aiming for and the context..

OK, the book was using the in the virtual host config in httpd-vhosts.conf, it cited old file paths were Xampp USED to be located in program files dir. It’s now C:\Xammp not in program files dir…

I edited the books recommended vhosts entry to reflect new Xampp path and it works like the book says it would. Solved.
