What would be the advantage if Textpattern would be installed 50 million times?

1 and 3… Good ideas, unfortunately contradictory.
I’m testing a new plugin by Spiffin right now, spf_writer (a scaled down version of spf_codemirror), and it does exactly #3 (instantaneously, no lag), and it’s not a heavy wysiwyg. I’m no dev, but I’d say it probably can be done.
Bert,
I have no clue what point you’re trying to make, or even which side of the discussion you’re speaking from. It’s like one long riddle.

I would be glad to test it and be proven mistaken, but apprehend the conclusion. Even if it is fast, chances are it is heavy. Javascript is just not made to mark up a plain text, or I will learn something new (so win-win for me).

Re: Improved Text Editor Capability
Going back through history, Michael’s original post got me backtracking.
Hakjoon did a lot of work in the early years, this is the beginnings of Textile Quicktags. In hakjoon’s post he refers to a forum thread, #43133, which has gone missing.
Curious, what’s the forum policy on old posts, has the forum been pruned?

The plugin requires adding CodeMirror to the root in its own folder, which is baggage, of course, but the plugin itself doesn’t seem particularly big. I wouldn’t know how to measure that though. I’m guessing Spiffin will share it eventually.
In any case, if you’re concern is “heavy”, then it seems we at least agree on #1— a heavy wysiwyg doesn’t belong in core. ;)

I still find my early posts (formatted in HTML, ha!) Maybe he self-edited. I’ve done that from time-to-time.

Whatever the policy in place, pruning of old posts should never happen. The value of this forum, aside from the helpful and friendly members, is it’s rich history.
One can derive valuable insights from forum posts that happened in 2007, more so than from what’s happening today. There were more people around back then that spoke their mind, today it’s like a Scientology meetup happening around here. Yeah, sure, whatever you say oh leaders.

Anyone got a vague idea why this forum is titled “Feature ideas”? No? Me neither.

I’m sure there are reasons for that link to be broken other than that of pruning old topics. When I look at the hakjoon link it has a pid
URL parameter whereas this topic here has a param of id
. Removing that p
doesn’t fix the hakjoon link, though, admittedly. Maybe the topic was moved to a different sub-forum, the redirect broke in the meantime, isn’t in place any longer etc.

Robert, been playing around with Flarum, it’s where the main developer of FluxBB is now stationed.
Flarum is a bit different, it’s more like Vanilla than a traditional boxy forum like FluxBB.
I never really cared for the Vanilla style, but using Flarum has brought me around. Instead of Forums, we Tag our posts, and all posts and replies filter onto the front page, tagged appropriately.
Flarum is about to enter Beta 3, once it goes stable, it will be an easy transition for FluxBB patrons, Franz will see to that.
Would this fall under a feature idea or a heads up?
