Gitter done

Anybody, anybody? Tough audience.

While on the trail of Flarum, I came upon Gitter.

Gitter lets you marry your GitHub repo to a mad audience of fans, just waiting to tell you what they think.

All kidding aside, I get emails from GitHub because I follow Textpattern, nicely threaded by Thunderbird, would be nice to have a more open forum. Faster turn around on ideas I would think, quick thumbs up or down.

The punchline

Re: Gitter done

Gitter looks like Slack to me – what is the benefit over Slack, or this forum?

Slack does something similar. Tried it earlier in ’15 around here. It didn’t work out well, so it was shelved. More info here: forum.textpattern.com/viewtopic.php?id=44290

Wasn’t around for the Slack experiment, it didn’t go well I see.

Gitter just brings the conversations you are having via GitHub into an easier interface for us to comment on.

Today I’ve been receiving emails from GitHub, should we do this, when, let’s go on the forum and ask. If you’ll eventually be asking the community for their opinion, why not do it in a faster medium?

Some people have finite time to dedicate to coding, just look at Ruud’s 30 minute turnaround of the Import pull request. I think the quicker you come to a decision, the more bodies are in play.

Gitter looks like fun, might be worth a try?

Slack and Google+ are duds compared to a forum like we have here. The Forum is robust.

Depends on the community, we tend to like forums around here. I prefer forums myself, over any other solution out there today. It’s second nature to me by now, I’ve been using PunBB longer than I’ve been using Textpattern.

Gitter was a suggestion, an extra thing to have, in no way do I want to get rid of the forums.

Not to steer off topic, but if the forum is our hang-out, we need to know who’s online.
