Actually about half that if one stays a couple weeks. But I’d have to take along the bride to avoid domestic hostilities, so I’m back at your number. I’ve done plenty of dumber things, but it does $ stress my half Scottish ancestry.

Wish I could go. I’d be able to tack on a nifty little side trip to sheepway for some shepherds pie.

OK, dudes – it looks like 4 attendees so far.

How should we play this? Informal? Agenda’d? BarCamp-style? Something else?

Re: Textpattern user group meetup: Bristol, UK - autumn 2015

OK, bumping this once more – there are 5 people on the list, that’s enough to figure out how we’re going to run things.

Location choices:

  • pub
  • conference room
  • beach
  • cafe

Agenda:

  • formal
  • informal
  • freestyle

Everyone seems to be travelling more than hour to get to Bristol – which is fine – but let’s try and get this sorted in the next three weeks so we can make plans. Yes? Yes.

Speak your brains, please. Thanks.

Re: Textpattern user group meetup: Bristol, UK - autumn 2015

I say informal, but if anyone has any burning desires of things to talk about or needs me to prepare anything on a laptop, then jot ‘em down so I can get it set up.

Conference room seems too clinical. Pub works well, and has food. And beer :-) Or beach if the weather’s with us, with an option to dive into a cafe if the Atlantic pushes some closely-spaced isobars our way. Mind you, beach + sand + laptop != fun.

let’s try and get this sorted in the next three weeks so we can make plans.

That reminds me, I need to check out some accommodation options.

EDIT: Premier Inn, Portishead has pre-pay rooms for £39, which is a bargain. My Geography lets me down in knowing the distances involved to Weston-super-Mare though… must… Google… Maps.

EDIT2: crap, it’s half an hour’s drive away.

Agreed.

See the OP – Weston’s where we’re aiming for, so less driving. That works for me, too – and the rooms aren’t going to get any cheaper at 39GBP. Chances are there’s a pub near or attached to the Premier Inn, so that might work – I’ll investigate.

Edit: Disregard my above paragraph, I misread your reply. Portishead totally doable – less driving for you most of the attendees, too.

I’m not seeing any 39GBP rooms in Weston-super-Mare, but Portishead looks doable and cheap:

Edit: prices are pretty good, too: Friday night is 35GBP, Saturday is 39GBP, Sunday is 29GBP.

Let me know if definitely Portishead and whether I need to book 2 nights (the Friday and Saturday) or just Saturday night. Premier Inn is fine for me.

No. Premier Inn is great — you know what you’re getting — and Portishead seems the closest, unless we start looking at B&Bs on the sea front…

Just wanted to try and avoid a drive back to the hotel so I can at least have a pint of cider or something. Maybe there’s some pubic [sic] transport options between Portishead and Weston.

Let’s say Portishead. I misinterpreted your posts and got in a tizzy, so I’m on board for Portishead Premier Inn. Phil’s OK with that, too – so I say we go for it. JFDI, and all that.

I’ll update OP to reflect venue choice.
