Re: Let's decide what's actually going into 4.6

I was initially in the over my dead body will Classic be removed camp, and I started to write a reply to that effect, but I’m warming to the idea of a Hive-only base and theme-ified add-ons for Classic and Remora.

Can I suggest this talk of ditching Classic and Remora be split to another thread, please? This deserves more visibility.

Re: Let's decide what's actually going into 4.6

I have to admit, trying to support 3 official themes is a pain.

I will see what work is involved in bringing the Classic and Remora themes into the new layout. I don’t think it’s a horrible amount of work as a lot of the work on improving these was done around Textpattern 4.5 time. They will never be responsive though as I see Hive as being the standard theme going forward.

I’ll think about it.

Re: Let's decide what's actually going into 4.6

Lose Classic but please don’t kill Remora – it’s my favourite!

WRT release schedule, can I suggest a cautious approach for 4.6? There have been so many changes to the core – code tidying/refactoring etc etc – that it might be better to get it out into the wild without the big ticket items included. I’d hate to see us do an Apple and have a big bang release & then blow our reputation for rock solid reliability.

Re: Let's decide what's actually going into 4.6

I personally like the Classic theme, but if Hive is responsive and modern and can be themed later, then why do we need Remora or Classic.

Let’s save the Classic theme!
It’s the reason I choosed TXP over WP about 10 9 years ago!
So minimal :(

I think it’s the more TXPish thing with textile: we need it.

Re: Let's decide what's actually going into 4.6

I use the Classic theme. It is convenient for me.

aks_cron : Cron inside Textpattern | aks_article : extended article_custom tag
aks_cache : cache for TxP | aks_dragdrop : Drag&Drop categories (article, link, image, file)

Re: Let's decide what's actually going into 4.6

The forum seems to explode in the last weeks doe to the many new threats and partly extensive posts. All this is very interesting, but I feel me not able to participate in the discussions with my limited ability in English. All these newly discussed details are to many and in to rapid sequence. I don’t find enough time to read everything at the moment.

But one thing I would add from my point of view: In all of my site are used glz_custom_fields in combination with bot_write_tab_customize. For me it will be essential to find in the new Textpattern version a replacement for this to plugins with with at least the same features.

btw, if you’re using Sublime Text, get the DocBlockr plugin. If you place your cursor on the row above an undocumented function, hit slash-star-star-enter, it parses the function and creates a docblock automatically based on the function signature it finds. You fill in the blanks. It also keeps alignment nicely for you. Terrific.

I use Notepad++, but I’m going to download the Sublime Text eval version and get to playing around.

Quick question, would it help if I do the grunt work of placing the DocBlocks in all the code, and then letting someone more senior fill in the blanks.

Start a petition, create web site stickers, do up a Facebook page, the works!

At this rate, if I were Textile, I would start to worry …
