[textpacks] Translating languages strings for Textpattern 4.6
Translate this post

Introduction
Textpacks are lists of text that Textpattern uses to show localised (translated) versions of text. Each language has its own Textpack.
If you are fluent or very capable with a non-English language, this is an excellent opportunity for you to contribute your language skills to Textpattern and increase the quality of language translations for your chosen languages. This will help thousands of people around the world.
If you’re skilled and have some time to help, your work will be valuable to thousands of people around the world.
Call to action
Let’s work together on getting as many language strings translated as possible before Textpattern 4.6 is released.
Here are four ways to help:
- Level 0 – If you read and write one language fluently from the list below, we need your skills to check the current spelling, grammar and structure in one or more Textpacks.
- Level 1 – If you are fluent at Level 0 and have a good understanding of written British English, we need you to check the accuracy of your language Textpack and translate missing, untranslated strings.
- Level 2 – If Level 1 isn’t a big enough challenge for you, sign up to be a Textpack Ambassador and be part of the team that handles new translation strings as Textpattern gains new features.
- Level 3 – If you are fluent in a language that is not listed below and you are willing to spend time translating approximately 1200 language strings into that language, you will be increasing Textpattern’s worldwide reach into new territories.
How to help
Browse the Textpack of your choice from the table below, note the missing or inaccurate strings, then translate from the equivalent line in en-gb.textpack, which is the base translation file.
If you do not have a GitHub account and do not want to sign up, please post the translation as a reply in this thread. I, or someone else, will take action to make your proposed changes. If you want a list of the untranslated strings for a Textpack, please ask in this thread. I, or someone else, will supply them to you, and you can refer to en-gb.textpack
for the equivalent phrase in the master/base language.
If you are not confident with git
but you do have a GitHub account, please raise an issue with the appropriate translation strings. I, or someone else, will take action to make your proposed changes.
If you are competent with GitHub, fork the Textpacks repo, make the relevant changes to language files, and raise a pull request. If you are able to raise a pull request with outstanding translations from this thread, or outstanding issues, that would be excellent.

Thanks Pete, I will have a look (though Kees (keesb) is the ‘official’ Dutch translator, but he doesn’t seem to visit the forum very often).
BTW you switched the Dutch and Norwegian textpacks in your table ;) so I don’t know to which one the 100% belongs to.

He also hasn’t got much to do – Dutch is 100%, so gold star for Team Nederland.

Good spot – fixed, thank you.

And here’s how I counted the lines, if you’re interested.
To count the total strings in master/base Textpack (subtract 3 from this number to remove the language metadata strings in common
):
grep -v " =>[[:blank:]]*$" en-gb.textpack | grep -v '^#@' | wc -l
To count translated strings in a single Textpack:
grep -v " =>[[:blank:]]*$" xx-xx.textpack | grep -v '^#@' | wc -l
To count untranslated strings in a single Textpack:
grep " =>[[:blank:]]*$" xx-xx.textpack | grep -v '^#@' | wc -l
…and to output the untranslated strings in a single Textpack:
grep " =>[[:blank:]]*$" xx-xx.textpack

No sweat. How good is your Latvian, Wareham? Rumour has it that you’re a solid 7 out of 10.

Candyman, are you volunteering for the Esperanto (eo-eo
) language pack? I’m going to learn Cornish (kw-kw
) soon, so I may take that on as a project.
If not, you can redeem yourself and help Italian users by telling me the Italian for the invalid_postdate
string. The English equivalent is Invalid timestamp.
if that helps.

So is Pirate. Arrrrrrr.
(I started to translate en-gb
into pirate, but was enjoying it far too much, so deleted it.)
