There are upwards of 250 textpattern.* domains that can be purchased – right now – and applied to hosting that doesn’t cost a lot of money.

Never really thought of it that way. Well worth considering.

whois.domaintools.com/textpattern.sexy

Edit: also, people type domains/addresses less and less these days. The only people who care about TLDs are folks that run websites.

:-) Don’t suppose in their many substance-fuelled parties when they nailed down the eclectic smörgåsbord of new TLDs, that ICANN thought to add .cms?

No to .cms, sadly. I will say textpattern.io piqued my interest, but it’s not without baggage: gigaom.com/2014/06/30/the-dark-side-of-io-how-the-u-k-is-making-web-domain-profits-from-a-shady-cold-war-land-deal/

Shame. The whole ICANN TLD naming debacle makes me wonder what the hell they were thinking.

Other contenders:

  • .ink — As in publishing, but it fails my can it be misconstrued when spoken yardstick, potentially being confused with .incorporated.
  • .space — As in a creative space to work. Might be misconstrued as ‘that thing beyond our breathable atmosphere’.
  • .ing — The art of using Textpattern.
  • .rocks — Because it does.

Re: textgarden.org expired - backup plan needed

I wouldn’t completely discount .io on the basis of that article – as one of the contributors says, there’s less of an association between the (cc)TLD and the actual country – there are bigger things to think about than politics.

I’m very much of the JFDI school of thought right now. If this latest round of comms with (or without) Dean proves fruitless, this idea of a facelift on a new domain should not be discounted. Don’t rewrite history, of course, but shake off some the shackles that are limiting progress and taking up brain cycles.

Looking back at June, there’s been a huge amount of stuff talked about. This is great – now it’s time to get words into actions.

I’m on board if it comes to that.

Very kind of you to offer, thank you. Let’s see where this discussion takes us first.

After all, someone not a million miles from this thread owns textpattern.co which is only one letter different from our primary domain today ;-)

Re: textgarden.org expired - backup plan needed

These exist (probably not after pointing them out). While some are cheeky, all are feasible to some degree:

Home runs:

  • textpattern.home
  • textpattern.app
  • textpattern.one (like Air Force One; central command, Booya!)

Triple base hits:

  • textpattern.web
  • textpattern.new (upon release of 4.6)
  • textpattern.free (the opposite of .com, because, you know…)

The boat that sailed:

  • textpattern.plus (the hosted, paid version)

One for Jonathan:

  • textpattern.tips

For giggles (or, earning points for laughing with oneself):

  • textpattern.rodeo
  • textpattern.theater
  • textpattern.charity

A personal favorite:

  • textpattern.ist

The one to watch for:

  • text.pattern
