Textpattern user group meetup: Bristol, UK - autumn 2015

Hey, you should come to Bristol. It’ll be amazing.

What: a Real Life gathering of Textpattern CMS users and developers.

Where: Portishead, Bristol, UK.
Where exactly: Portishead Premier Inn and Brewer’s Fayre next door
When: Saturday, October 10th, 2015 – from 10am, and an optional pre-event gathering on Friday evening, October 9th, 2015.
Agenda: pub, chat, beverages, food, Textpattern hacking, etc.

Who: provisional ‘yes’, so far–

  • gaekwad (Pete, Textpattern user and hired gun)
  • Bloke (Stef, Textpattern core developer)
  • philwareham (Phil, Textpattern core designer)
  • algaris (Ross, Textpattern user and man of mystery)
  • codewalker (James, Textpattern user and maker of web stuff)

Travel: Bristol is well-served by motorways on the ground and planes in the sky. Portishead is easily reached from the M5 motorway and a few miles from Bristol (BRS) airport. Ryanair, EasyJet and many European carriers all fly into and out of BRS.

Please reply in this thread if you’re interested in coming along.

Any questions, please ask.

Re: Textpattern user group meetup: Bristol, UK - autumn 2015

I was thinking September or October for dates – certainly after school terms have started again, and before the weather descends into full-on British autumn.

Phil’s expressed a preference for the first half of September, and that would work better than the second half of September for me, too. If that’s too close, then perhaps October might be better when everyone’s back.

Stef: what are your thoughts at this stage?

I’m actually in Cornwall early September so could break away from the family for a day, maybe even drop into your town and car share for a day trip, if that was viable.

Failing that I’ve no problem coming down the weekend after (11th-13th) as I’d have the whole weekend available then.

Or push it to early October if that’s not stretching the welcome of the British climate.

How about the weekend of October 10-11th – that gives Phil holiday time, you get a full holiday with family, and it avoids a there-and-back-in-a-day schlep from EX23 to Bristol (5 hours travel time).

That’s 130 days away, which is plenty of time.

That weekend is fine for me I think.

October 10-11th should be good for me too. Since my phone is so legendary, we have a paper calendar / planner in the kitchen that I’ll check when I get home. As long as those dates aren’t book-ending the half term week, it’ll probably be fine.

Could you pencil me in please? Any chance I might be able to do a car share with you Pete since we both live in Cornwall?

Re: Textpattern user group meetup: Bristol, UK - autumn 2015

10-11th October is great for me.

Public transport / flights are either prohibitively expensive from Leeds or go via random European destinations, and both modes of transport take longer than driving. An order of magnitude cheaper to fly in from pretty much anywhere in Europe than it is to get the train from Leeds. Go figure.

You could go EWN -> ATL -> AMS -> BRS if you’re keen, towndock. Allow two days and about 1500USD each way…
