Symlink for latest version

I can curl or wget this URL to download the latest Wordpress:

http://wordpress.org/latest.tar.gz

There doesn’t appear to be an equivalent to latest.tar.gz or latest.zip for Textpattern. The actual URL doesn’t really matter, as long as it can be relied on.

Could this be considered as part of the release process, please?

I’d be more interested in having an easy way to retrieve the version number of the latest release, so it would be possible to periodically check if there is a new version.

The function checkUpdates() in /include/txp_diag.php is what I was looking for.
