I really can’t understand why normal sites should have ssl (except when web forms are involved).

Which is what I have now – SSL turned on only for the pages where a user must fill in personal data.

No, but it’s a known issue. The current Textpattern.com website was built in 2008. I am writing a new one from scratch at the moment (well, in between my day job).

That site doesn’t have any SSL at all, and the server hosts a couple of SSL’d sites – will fix, thanks for the heads-up.
