jquery responsive carousel for videos

Hi all

I’m in the process of redesigning one of my sites so as to make it responsive. Does anyone know of a jquery carousel plugin which is responsive and can hold videos (preferable from vimeo)? My search resulted in either lightbox type ones or ones which have a dependency on fitvid which I would rather not use.

I’ve been impressed with Slick:

http://kenwheeler.github.io/slick/

I’m not using it for video – but the way its coded I think it would be indifferent to the content.

Hi, thanks for pointing slick to me. Looks good but it doesn’t seem to work with videos in my tests.

Re: jquery responsive carousel for videos

After 3 days in trying to find a solution for this on the net, I ended up with hundreds of similar questions but not a single answer. I also investigated if I could go the non js way but I had no luck again. So I am coming up seeking advice again but with a rephrased question.

Does anyone know of a way – js or css – to slide a number of iframes?

Re: jquery responsive carousel for videos

Codecanyon has several which claim to support Vimeo video. They are not free / open source, but they don’t cost much:

http://codecanyon.net/search?utf8=%E2%9C%93&term=slider

The 1st one on the above list states it supports Vimeo. “Slidea” looks nice, although the demo shows too many gadgety features. Just use the simple ones and perhaps this works.

Re: jquery responsive carousel for videos

Hi Pete, It’s bxslider that I saw when I opted not to use the fitvid plugin,
Hi towndock, Slidea does not to seem to be working with iframes. The rest are all commercial solutions.

Hi bici, I sorted that one out and it is html5 valid too. The problem is that there are some pages with 15+ videos which I am trying to have in one container in a similar way as vimeo’s hubnut which is flash coded and not visible on mobile devices. Requests on vimeo for a mobile version of hubnut has been met positively 5 years ago but we are yet to see a solution.

Re: jquery responsive carousel for videos

Slidea documentation shows how to do video (including Vimeo) using iFrame:

http://slideajs.com/documentation.html#elem-videos

As does bxslide – video example using iFrame:

You are right… but I try to keep away from commercial solutions. Also, the script does far too many things so it is bloated with effects I do not need.

As does bxslide – video example using iFrame:

I do not like bxslide because it uses fitvid which is not needed as I achieved the fluidity of the videos by just using css, but more importantly, non savvy visitors might not recognise it of being a container of many videos.

Re: jquery responsive carousel for videos

I seem to have found a solution but the javascript in the template is all mixed up in an init.js file. Could somebody with enough knowledge of js advise me on how I can distil the scroller and take out all the extra bloat? Also (on local tests where I deleted all but the scroller) it seems that the scroller fails when I start disabling the js files. Are they actually all needed?
