I found an interesting blog post from the creator of another CMS I had never heard of.
He talks about his decision to move from CodeIgniter to Laravel and why he isn’t going to now.
p.s. I had never heard of Laravel before a couple of weeks ago.
a friend who is a coder used to rave about CI now it’s all Laravel.

I have been following Phil Sturgeon – @philsturgeon for a number of years after giving PyroCMS a trial test a few years ago. He also wrote a good book for PyroCMS. Once v3.0 is released i’ll give it another try.

OT: I think that Laravel claim PHP Framework for Web Artisans is perfectly-coordinated with TXP logo :P

I appreciated that they had a demo available from the front page.
The page tree model in the admin reminds me a little bit of Sam Weiss’s “Escher CMS” or, a little bit of Jeff Soo’s “Multidoc” plugin for Txp.
I have had uses for Jeff’s Multi-doc over the years. I would not want to give up the current Txp paradigm, but I could see the value if future Txp made it easy for a plug in to add a content tab offering a page tree view. For some of my visually minded clients, page trees are a more concrete idea (even though I think Txp is easy to understand as is).Ionize’s media upload is a bit more modern than Txp, but separate tabs for each type of media associated with each page or article seems like overkill.
I can’t say I’m thrilled over their implementation of extended fields. Both the application and UX. Seems like it is clunky and could get messy fast. Their Content Elements appear to be custom data templates, and I like that, but again, I’m not sure its executed as well as it could be. I’ll have to play around with it more. They just remind me how much I’m looking forward to your implementation of unlimited custom fields. :)
The features page proudly states they use CodeIgniter as a framework . . . CI on its own is a third bigger than Txp 4.5.5, and that’s before adding the CMS code, and the framework offers a lot of stuff that a lightweight CMS doesn’t necessarily need.
That makes sense. I’m not impressed one way or another when a project touts CI as a framework. I like small, clean, efficient. The link that bici posted references CI losing popularity due to bloat over backward compatibility.
They tout that they are MVC as well. That reminds me of discussions I’ve read here over Txp’s future.
I come from a Vic-20 / ZX Spectrum background (save a byte, save the world)
The Vic-20 was one of the first computers I ever used. Though I didn’t actually own a computer until the Commodore 64 was out. (I think I have it packed away in storage yet. You know – just in case ;P)
