Re: Check this out, peeps
If tracert is to be believed, the last Internet hop prior to the scent dropping off the map, is Blackburn, England. The plot thickens…

Re: Check this out, peeps
They get traffic and content, thus boosting PR, Alexa etc so when they launch whatever the real site will be, it has a high chance of ranking. Plus there’s the bonus of infecting/phishing your users while there.
Ads are just extra I guess, just making the most of it.
Seems complex setup, but banning the IP ranges SHOULD do it.

Re: Check this out, peeps
I raised a Google DMCA request with the 4 URLs mentioned in OP and initial replies: reference #1-5629000004357.
Edit: oh, and my pitchfork and placards are ready when the mob moves into action.

Heh. Without going into too much detail, was the [redacted] forum one of the clone targets, Mr Apricot?
Edit: removed the website reference.

So if you can, find the IP’s and block them off.
Done:
Deny from 172.246.128.229
Thanks for the report. This issue should be fixed for now.

Looks like these are mostly wannabe “search engines”. They won’t do much harm, I suppose.

Thought maybe they were hijacking the same DNS info and the two domains would resolve to identical IPs, but they don’t.
I believe this is a simple proxy.

Re: Check this out, peeps
I was wondering if we could add a javascript which checks the domain and if it is not ours, it provides for a redirection here. Something like this idea. I know it will not solve the problem 100% but it might work for some such sites.
