Change login name
If I change a login name in the database… will there be repercussions further down the line?
What is the best way to do this?

Yes. It will leave behind broken content associations and causes all sorts of errors.

Create a new account, log in with it and then transfer content from the old account to the new one.

i’m curious…why would asset ownership be based on name and not user_id? I would think a good modular system would be able to act independent of name otherwise why have a user_id?

You are correct. The scheme is quite badly designed and has (and had) some awkward fuckups. Why? Likely because of incompetence and age, Textpattern is old as fuck.

That’s the Textpattern t-shirt tagline, right there.

So are a number of other open source platforms. I think that txp is going the right direction. The problem is that we are currently playing catchup. Hopefully this will change soon

Re: Change login name
I still enjoy Textpattern, perhaps because I’m not so expert, but I see that unfortunately there is no more enough support in this forum.
Besides I still can’t download the last ‘.pdf’ file – tag reference. I can’t understand why all this happen.

There is a good level of support in this forum, but it’s not a fast-moving area, so a bit of patience is sometimes needed. In my experience (nearly 10 years of Textpattern), this forum is one of the most helpful and supportive I have ever user for any software product.

You’re correct – the PDF tag reference is broken, and has been for a while.

The only way it’s not going to be old as fuck is if we modernise the codebase gradually and retool anything that is perceived a bad obsolete design. Yeah, I havent done as much Textpattern dev myself recently as I’ve wanted to – because of lack of time, not through lack of desire. I think we are all in a similar position at the moment.
