Removing ampersands

We’ve decided to remove ampersand symbols from text in favour of the actual ‘and’ wording. It’s better grammatically. See this issue.

A few languages have been done – we need translators to check their languages on the GitHub repo for this symbol and to replace if it exists.

Thanks in advance.

Re: Removing ampersands

For de-de it’s the lines 248/249:

title_body => Titel & Haupttext
title_body_excerpt => Titel, Haupttext & Exzerpt

… where both &s; can be replaced by und.

Re: Removing ampersands

Thanks Uli – I’ve updated the de-de file now.

So, from doing a search, these languages still contain an ampersand or two…

bs-ba
bg-bg
da-dk
et-ee
id-id
he-il
is-is
pt-br
pt-pt
tr-tr
sv-se
vi-vn
zh-tw

You’re welcome. But you also changed the capital H of “Haupttext” to a small one. (Twice)

Yeah, because house style is for sentence case – all of the German strings should eventually be sentence case unless there is a very good reason not to.

Re: Removing ampersands

Sentence Lower case for subjects isn’t used in German orthography. It’s plain wrong.

Re: Removing ampersands

Why would / should a CMS care whether one writes & or and?

Re: Removing ampersands

@towndock

Sorry, what? I don’t understand your comment.

We are taking ampersands out of UI text (because it needs HTML encoding for certain uses and is not really necessary). Nothing more.

We are not forcing users to stop using ampersands in their content!

Re: Removing ampersands

Sorry… dumb question on my part (I was lacking the context). Carry on…
