Is Textpattern for me?

Hello
Im new to Textpattern, never used it before atall.
I am trying to create a webpage and thought id write a post here first to see if you think i should start working with Textpattern or just forget it.

I want to create a webpage where any visitor can submit a title and a link (URL). This content that the visitor is submitting is then to be displayed in a list on my website.

I have tried with Wordpress, but not found any good plugins to support and do it as i want it.
I have NO background in programing.

I hope that Textpattern will support this and allow me to set this up quite easily and without having to edit to much code, more work with plugins/extensions.

What do you think?

Re: Is Textpattern for me?

Hi behedwin – welcome to Textpattern.

You can do this with Textpattern, and you can do it without extra plugins – it can all be done in the core Textpattern product, if you’re happy with some learning about Textpattern tags and its structure.

The way I would approach your task is to create an article and then enable comments. A submitter would then provide a comment with the URL and title, and each comment would be displayed in a list, complete with the title and link.

Now, you can style the comments so they would appear in the list as you want them. There are a bunch of Textpattern comment tags that can be used to make your list, though comment_web and comment_name would be most appropriate for your task, I think.

Please bear in mind that there will be a learning curve with Textpattern. It’s nimble, it’s flexible and it’s extensible – but it’s perhaps not as immediately intuitive as Wordpress. You should also look at Squarespace (paid) and Google Docs (free) if you want to shortlist a few other options, too.

If you try Textpattern – and I recommend you do – then there are people here who can help, and there are answers to thousands of questions already in the system.
