A working knowledge of PHP is obviously required to do anything extensive with this application.

When was the article published? Is there somewhere a date? It doesn’t seem to me to be up to date.

I disagree with many of the arguments. In my view it is an advantage that there is no built-in WYSIWYG editor (but, there is a plugin) and it’s one of the reasons to use Textpattern. I don’t think that it is difficult to learn the few most widely used encodings for Textile, such as, for example, titles, lists and spans etc.

I hope it was really, really, “before”: The new tag parser was introduced in 2008, and it was that release that made so many resorts to PHP superfluous.
