Re: Images not working due to non-standard install location. How to fix?

Diagnosis says:

$path_to_site: */home/example/public_html/blogg*

Is that how it should be? I ask because the path to the Web site is /home/example/public_html – the path that $path_to_site lists is more ”the path to blog” …

More on this:

Diagnosis says: ”Site URL preference might be incorrect: example.no/blogg ?”

However: The site url, as set in preferences, is simply example.no.

I don’t understand why Textpatterns tells me that the site URL is example.no/blogg …

The site URL should set to example.no/blogg. You have installed Textpattern to sub-directory. This would also be the reason why links and images are using wrong URLs.

I changed site URL from example.no to example.no/blogg, so that it site URL and site path would match …

That was it. Now it seems to work.

But for future users of Textpattern, I really hope that you find some other wording than ”site URL”.

Right. And thanks for confirming!

But the help text for ”Site URL” (in the Preferences) says: ”This is the top-level domain of the server your site is running on, for example www.textpattern.com.”. And I would argue that most people consider ”site” to cover top-level domains (such as textpattern.com) or sub level domains (such as www.textpattern.com or blog.textpattern.com).

Since Textpattern can be installed in any folder, the text should be clear on the fact that “site URL” does not refer to “top level domain“ or ”sub level domain”. It simply refers to the directory that Tetpattern operates within!

Agreed?

Yes, site URL is the installation location, there is no restriction where you can install and yes, the documentation is incorrect and can be incorrect elsewhere too.

I see a problem in the diagnostics. It sais that your site is at example.no but your install is at example.no/blogg/. You might have to change that in admin>preferences to point to example.no/blogg

Yup, I guess this is exactly what Gocom and myself concluded above. And, as well, it turned out to be the solution to my problem! :-)

Just a quick thought.

Is the central apache config file doing something with the /images directory?
Can you check this?
