Images on a CDN

Hi folks :)

Are you using a CDN in order to host your images?
Some advices to use this solution within Textpattern CMS?

Thanks for your replies.
Cheers,

Patrick.

Re: Images on a CDN

How about Cloudflare – all you need to do is sign up for a free account, repoint your DNS and off you go.

Hi Phil ;)

Thanks for your reply.

I tried CloudFlare last year with no good resultats for javascript files. I try to find a solution for images only.

Re: Images on a CDN

You can set a page rule in Cloudflare to ignore JavaScript files if you want. I’ve no idea why you’d want to do that though – I have a JavaScript-heavy, high traffic site routed through Cloudflare with absolutely zero problems.

Ok. Phil.

I’ll give one last chance to CloudFlare today.
Do you think all pics within the /images/ directory can be hosted by CloudFlare?

Re: Images on a CDN

Cloudflare by default will cache everything on a domain you give it, be that HTML, CSS, images whatever. You can then omit stuff using page rules.

For example I omit the ‘textpattern’ directory – that’s mainly because I have a few of the extra Cloudflare apps running and I don’t want them interfering with the Textpattern installation.

Re: Images on a CDN

Be aware though, that you are at the mercy of Cloudflare’s servers, so if they go down then your site goes down with it. This is very rare but they did have a major outage a few months back, they say they’ve taken steps to reduce the risk if this happening again but nothing is ever 100% guaranteed.
