Images as Products & yab_shop Shopping Cart
Hello,
I’m converting an old website to e-commerce website which I had created using Textpattern over a year ago.
Since when I was creating the website, client had no intention to make it an ecommerce site but now they want it and I dont wish to start over creating a new website as budget & time are issues, also, there are over 800 products displayed on this website, considering to reupload all those products again is a very huge task for me.
So, I’m just going to use yab_shop shopping cart with Paypal as payment gateway.
Before I will start there are few things where I’d like to have expert opinion so I don’t mess everything up.
The website is of marbles & related products so there are tons of categories, hundreds of products in each category. Since I was newbie back then & it was easy to do so, I had posted articles with article images as products. Each image was a product & I used alt & caption fields of image to store additional data as the name & type of the product.
- Right now, problem is, I’m not sure how this will work with yab_shop’s cart. As far as I know, it adds an article as product in cart, not individual image. If I make every product an article, then I can also store additional details per product like terms of use, T&C, installation methods etc. Previously, I was told about jmd_cvs plugin which can help, but I’m not sure how.
- Is Paypal payment gateway a good choice or should I go for premium ones like CCAvenue? There are going to be very very few transactions on this site so I dont think we need any paid service but still, if the transaction takes place, the buyer should be able to use his/her credit/debit card for purchase, not just the Paypal account.
- Is there any better way to do this project that I don’t know or haven’t considered?
Sorry for the long post & Thank you so much for your time.

I haven’t used yab_shop so can’t help you on that part, but using the PayPal payment gateway does not force buyers to have a PayPal account to be able to pay. Buyers also get the option to pay with a normal debit/credit card if they choose to do so.

Hello springworks,
Thank you so much for clearing out my confusion. I thought I’d have to go for Paypal direct payment option but client is not ready to pay much.
I’ve used yab_shop once before and its really good but problem is it works with articles not with individual articles as far as I know.
So that’s where I’m stuck.
Thanks again, I really appreciate your help.

According to my observation, one preferably asks plugin specific questions in the respective plugin topic. Sorry that I can’t be more helpful.
In bad weather I never leave home without wet_plugout, smd_where_used and adi_form_links

Hey uli,
Thanks for your reply. I do understand that people preferably ask plugin related questions in respective plugin topic but my question wasn’t exactly about the plugin. I just want some expert help over converting my existing articles to the ones that could be used by the said plugin.
It was actually a how to question for me.
Ecommerce is something that I’ve never done with Textpattern so I asked question here.
Anyways, thanks for answering. I hope I will figure out some way to do this project.
