I have a dream that one day TXP will move Templates from SQL

I like TXP very very much, but i have created some templates for it and i hate CTRL+C and CTRL+V (from editor to admin textarea). hcg_templates saves me for now, but it’s still admin panel

I don’t understand why we store templates inside DB.
Presentation should really be separated from content. FTP = files and templates (styles). SQL = data.

I want to turn of cache, save template in editor and refresh browser… and see results.

TXP presents itself as a professional publishing platform but you force designers to waste extra time with templates.

Imho.

Hi John Smith.

There is cnk_versioning.
This plugin lets you move your templates to files, to easily edit them and opens other posibilites (like it makes it easier to do teamworking and/or versioning your work with a VCS). Then, once edited, the plugin “sucks” the file content back to DB.

Be careful though, I have actually lost a template set somehow with cnk_versioning – probably through through lack of knowledge…. but definitely worth keeping an eye out.

I still don’t know what I did :)

I lost templates 1 hour ago on fresh testing installation. xD

This plugin does not check for empty files.
I’ve added instruction.

the cautionary tales herein about cnk_versioning is all too true. i too have also work o occasion. I don’t trust it that much on important sites

I find it very trust-able once it’s correctly configured. Of course, doing a backup of you DB before installing is something everyone should.

Yes indeed, template in database is scary. Would be nice if database would save last 20 page saves or something like that —- perhaps not in mySQL but in a folder.

Personally I have copies of all my files on my hard drive.

This topic comes up time and again. Maybe open we should open as an issue at the Google Code page – at least there can then be some discussion on whether it’s viable?
