oops. sorry.
But in any event there is something about gmail that is not working. When a user with a Gmail email address changes their password they DO NOT receive the new changed password

I do from my server to my gmail account, although gmail does throw a warning that the message “may not have been sent” from the given sender. Perhaps with some accounts that’s enough to tip it into the ether and not deliver it? (which is the reason I loathe forced spam detection at the server level: it’s not a service, it’s a disservice!)
But I have had it before — not just with gmail but from some hosts — that new registration emails and/or password changes don’t come through. Have never got to the bottom of it but I suspect it’s server related rather than either Textpattern or gmail specifically. Could be wrong.

Re: Mail() function not working
Is it just one gmail addressee with the problem or are there multiple ones?
Would you like to make me (joebaich@gmail.com) a no privileges user just to check that it is a Gmail issue as opposed to a specific Gmail user issue.
You can also try opening up the Gmail account in a browser and searching on http://theproblemdomainname.com/textpattern/index.php to see if the messages have been hidden away someplace.

i only see a bunch of postfix.log files which i don’t have access to.
the admin email is my gmail address
PS I just looked at the email that a user receives when the Admin sets them up with an id:
Delivered-To: mnulens@gmail.com
Return-Path: <giovanni@spencer.joyent.us>
Received-Spf: pass (google.com: best guess record for domain of giovanni@spencer.joyent.us designates 8.12.36.47 as permitted sender) client-ip=8.12.36.47;
Authentication-Results: mx.google.com; spf=pass (google.com: best guess record for domain of giovanni@spencer.joyent.us designates 8.12.36.47 as permitted sender) smtp.mail=giovanni@spencer.joyent.us
X-Mailer: Textpattern

Re: Mail() function not working
So after many tests it appears that folks with Gmail e-mails do not get email notification when they change their passwords. All other email addresses work fine.
This could be a fault with the TEXTDRIVE / JOYENT servers or it could be with GMAIL.
