<span role="presentation"> ?

I noticed recently that the recent svn builds use <span role="presentation"> many times on spans wrapped around characters like ‘[’ or ‘]’ (the Articles tab is full of them). As far as I understand the intent of the attribute, it simply removes the semantics associated with a particular HTML element, but leaves the text content of the element exposed to AT.

If the intent is to hide those square brackets from AT, I think aria-hidden="true" would be more appropriate.

Re: <span role="presentation"> ?

Yeah, I think you’re right there – we want screen readers to ignore those spans so the aria-hidden attribute does seem to be a more logical choice. I’ll amend.

Thanks.

Edit: now done in SVN.
