Re: Display of images section of admin-side - TXP5

Hi Phil,

Nice to hear some of the editing features will use modals — it’s a giant step towards a more modern CMS. ;)
I’m really looking forward to seeing what you’re working on.

Anything’s feasible. Do what’s right for the user experience to start with and we’ll worry about how to make it happen later. If it’s too outlandish we might have to compromise a little but a permanent system thumb works for me.

There’s no reason that, on upgrade, nothing happens to the existing image files until you first visit the Images tab: at which point the absence of the system thumbs could either a) trigger an automatic hunk of code to make them, b) render the grid with a fixed-width placeholder where the thumbnail should be and offer a button to “create thumbs”. Either way the code to auto-generate thumbs is built-into Txp today; that’s what it does by default when you set a thumb width/height. It’s also what smd_thumbnail does. It’s just down to consensus whether the large image is cropped or resized, or that decision is determined by a pref.

Re: Display of images section of admin-side - TXP5

I’m not too convinced about the model thing with mobile devices becoming the norm – if used, it would have to be super perfectly slick across every medium.

I was thinking about some more preferences for the image tab or multi option view links on the page – view as list, view as thumbnail grid for example.

Preferences could be:

View as List – (y/n)
Show thumbnail in List – (y/n)
View as Thumbnail Grid – (y/n)
Show full size image – (y/n)
Thumbnail width – (px/%)
Full size image width – (px/%)
Image meta below: – (y/n)
Image meta to right: – (y/n)

etc… I’m sure there could be more

The sizes could be used in conjunction with an admin version of smd_thumbnail or an image replacement script like slir

Again, there are probably 2034.5 reasons why this isn’t a good idea/possible (it does seem complicated now I’ve put it in writing) – but just thought I’d throw it out there :)

Re: Display of images section of admin-side - TXP5

Came across this post today. Was thinking how sweet a grid view would be.
Any new ideas – deveopments on this?

I think a list / grid view button option would be clutch in the Image Tab….. Just saying.
I’m definitely not the dude to write a plugin for it( lacking skills in php ) .

Yes, we are assessing a grid view for images as part of the 4.6 release cycle. Although I have nothing to show you just yet.

Phil,

I’d love to give the new direction an eye and let you know if I spy any usability problems.
