Do we still need public mailing lists?
We currently operate three public mailing lists:
- txp-dev
- txp-announce
- txp-plugins
Do they still serve any purpose? Please chime in with pros and cons.

I think you can safely remove these lists – not too useful and arguably discussion would be better served openly on the forums, G+, FB and TXP Mag.
Any issues related to development should really be on the TXP Code page, announcements here and on the official weblog, plugins probably on the new plugins page.
Being in the same Joyent boat I’m now seeing the EOL as a good opportunity to clear house.

Like others, I think those lists can go the way of the dodo.

Plugins/dev can be done here on the forum (larger audience), but I’d keep the announce list, to inform subscribers when there’s a new version. Not so much for the new features, but because a new version often includes security fixes and people should have an option to be notified so they can upgrade ASAP.
Because an announce list is a very limited form of mailing list (1 to all, instead of all to all), you probably don’t need complex mailing list software (like Mailman); I suspect you could even do that with the postmaster plugin. In fact, it would be nice if users were offered an option to subscribe when they want to download TXP (as it was in the beginning).

+1 as it would encourage the plugin’s development. It currently does not work on 4.5 beta

I get one of them – not sure which one, txp-dev I think – and I rarely look at it. I have never used it for two-way communication though.
