Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

So, I have tried to style this so that the box with content when clicked to edit, doesn’t stretch the entire width of the page (being cut off by both the right col and the end of page right), it seems it loads before the css, and when I insert the jquery code to let the document load first clicking to edit doesn’t work..

Hi Hilary,
the plugin does not style anything.
Could you provide an example of your layout/css ?

I also want to have this extend to custom fields, excerpt etc.. if I put some funding together would you be able to program and extend this plugin as required? I would be happy to release the updated code back into the community also, but I would think it’s worth some incentive to do it too since I’m really interested in it! Let me know!

Thank you for your proposition.
And sure funding would be a nice way to put me back in gear to expand this to a production level.
Bear in mind, though that i will make the plugin txp4.5 dependant.

What do you think people ? Show your love and your needs.

Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

I really like the idea of this plugin but can’t figure out how to make it actually save the changes. The save/cancel buttons appears and you can edit the text, but when you press save, it deletes anything written, or if logged in as another user, it says “incorrect response”. I made sure both users are allowed to edit their own articles. I didn’t know what you meant by admin path, so just set it to /textpattern/index.php?

Any ideas on what I am doing wrong?

Thanks!
Caleb

Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

Hi Caleb,

kind of strange ! Is the javascript file included in your page ? I guess yes.
The admin path seems to be correct, meaning that if your usual admin page is in the form of www.my_website.com/textpattern/index.php
“incorrect response” means the ajax request has not completed and return an error.
What kind of server install are you running ?
Could you check on your admin page if the article is updated ?
Let me know if this helps.

Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

Hmm, I checked the articles and they are not updating. I am running on php 5.2.17, and textpattern 4.5.1
I am using Foundation (http://foundation.zurb.com/) for the framework and so maybe one of those js files are messing with it, but I just removed all of those to see and it still is doing the same thing.

When doing it as a publisher, it doesn’t return the error, the editing layout just disappears and takes you back to the normal article. the incorrect response only shows up as someone with lesser privs but still with ability to edit their own articles.

Thanks
Caleb

Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

It seems that the edited content is not transmitted.
Can you post your markup for the page that is using the plugin ?

One more thing : i haven’t tested the plugin in txp 4.5.x yet.
A.

Great plugin! Any development going on.
I’d like to combine this with a wysiwyg editor (tiny_mce) for example.

Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

Very much looking forward to seeing this developed, many thanks to both Claire and Aleth these just work great together, I must do a video soon to demonstrate but might wait until excerpt etc included, once that happens we finally have a great front end system for txp :) I would love to do a demo on how they do work together and a little interview with you both for txp mag down the line.. But mainly thanks you two stellar work!!

Re: plh_edit_in_place : edit your article directly from the front end

Hi Hilaryaq,
thanks for your encouragement.
Making a video would be great. In fact this plugin has been inflating quite a lot so explanations might become mandatory !…
Furthermore i think i’ll split this new version from the initial one.
Things should move in a while.

Yeah and actually there is a new plugin site in the works it would be cool to publish some live hangouts with screen shares and include that link on the plugin page, plus plugin author gets exposure from two sites and hopefully hits back to their website etc.. Look forward to the next version, it works perfectly for body text so even just to expand to cover other fields will be amazing :)

On google plus, they have a cool hangout feature I’m currently pitching the txp mag site to be able to interview and post videos for fresh content, will let you know once I know more myself, only an idea at the mo!
