Version of PHP?

Help! I went to my website today and it has this ugly message at the top before all my content:

Deprecated: Function set_magic_quotes_runtime() is deprecated in /nfs/c01/h09/mnt/7871/domains/sarahdoody.com/html/textpattern/lib/txplib_db.php on line 14

Someone emailed me and said it’s because I have an outdated version of PHP. Is that correct? If so, how do I update to a new version of PHP?

Re: Version of PHP?

It will help if you list your current version of PHP and of Textpattern. Both these are listed in Textpattern’s diagnostics for ease of reference.

Re: Version of PHP?

The problem is, I can’t login to Textpattern. So I don’t know the version of Textpattern I’m running. For PHP I’m running 5.3.31 … I suspect that MediaTemple updated my version of PHP and that has caused the issue with errors on my site. If this sounds right, is the solution then to downgrade the version of PHP I’m using? If so, to what version? Thanks!

Re: Version of PHP?

You’d either downgrade to PHP 5.2.x (or lower), or upgrade to the current Textpattern release, which is compatible with PHP 5.3. Make backups.

Re: Version of PHP?

Yes, Media Temple announced a global update to PHP 5.3.10 some time ago, so your suspicion is confirmed. Updating your version of Textpattern to 4.4.1 (the latest) is a good option. As wet suggests, making a backup of your database is thoroughly advisable. If you can’t log-in to Textpattern then you can do that using phpMyAdmin via Media Temple’s interface (domains/manage databases). Do you happen to know what the current version of Textpattern running your site is?

Re: Version of PHP?

I have backed up my data based in Media Temple. How do I upgrade Text pattern now?

Re: Version of PHP?

What should I do if I can’t login to textpattern? I tried to reset the password in the admin, but that did not work. Are there any other suggestions on how to reset the admin password via the database?

Re: Version of PHP?

One other suggestion. Use phpMyAdmin to make a backup of the SQL database. Download it to your desktop.
then download the entire web/ or public/ or public_html/ directory to you local desktop.

if you have MAMP (mac) or WAMP (windows) rebuild the site locally

then once you have it on local server update the Texpattern to 4.4.1 – the latest version. then upload the dir files back to the server and import the new sql file which you exported via your local phpMyAdmin and then from the MT server import the new sql. file.

…. texted postive

Re: Version of PHP?

Hi scdoody!

Unfortunately, the new version of PHP can not be downgraded due to security purposes. Also, the php developers no longer support anything lower than the new 5.3 version. Sorry about that! Let me know if you have any other questions!
