php a > b magic

Hello,
I’m wondering how it can happen that php file.php > file.txt sometimes renders three files with correct header, author, version and so on, and sometimes not (I downloaded the manfre folder with all the plugins, and they compile well)
Is some textpattern metadata system included in the php compiler? Hardly I guess…

Thanks for the patience… :)
