email login?
Hi I have a client requires a front side login with an e-mail address and not a user name.
The client makes a point that people don’t forget their email address.
Registration: He wants one input box for an email address.
Submit: Generates a password which is e-mailed.
Follow link to confirm.
Check – User name set? No – User is asked to fill out a Bio form. With compulsory user name field.
It is a simple process and I can’t disagree with him about logging in with the email address.
Is mem_self_register / ign_password_protect / mem_simple_form still the way to go for front-side registration/login?
Is it possible to use an e-mail address to login into a Textpattern set up?
Has anyone tried this?

I tested and that works!!
But i dont know if there is some limitation about the length of username that could be a problem!

… and partially answered a few months ago by cbe_frontauth, without the ability to self register though (or maybe… not yet… ?). Yes, this is one of my plugins.
I have to thank you for your request (loging in with the e-mail) because it led me to add this new functionality, published today.

Good to know yours will now allow login using an e-mail address.
Registration too, would be great.
