Getting started with Textpattern

I downloaded Textpattern to my downloads folder and moved it to my MAMP htdocs folder. My problem is that I don’t know how to open Textpattern. When I watch the installation video from Softaculous I see that I didn’t name a domain because I wasn’t given that option. I clicked install and went straight to download. I never set a directory and database name as was shown in the video, I didn’t set a site name or description either. In short I went from clicking install to download. Any suggestion on what I need to do use my Textpattern?

Re: Getting started with Textpattern

Or perhaps better using MAMP with textpattern. In step 6 it shows the URL you need to access your textpattern installation e.g. if you shifted the downloaded folder as a whole to a directory called /my-txp-project/, you’ll enter the following url in your browser to call up txp:

http://localhost:8888/my-txp-project/

(on first load it will instruct you to set up first)

Note:

  • if you’re doing just one project you can place the contents of the txp folder you downloaded directly in your htdocs folder (i.e. not in a subfolder) and call it up with http://localhost:8888.
  • if you are planning to develop lots of sites, using MAMP Pro (the paid version) you can define your own local domain name, e.g. http://my-txp-project.dev and choose your own folder to put your files in.
  • if you changed your port settings, you may note need the :8888 in the url.
