How to upgrade from version 4.0.7?
Hello. I have an old installation of Textpattern 4.0.7 and it won’t upgrade automatically? How come?
When I press “Check Updates” it displays:
“There is an update for this Textpattern version series available. Do you want to try it?
There is a completely new Textpattern version available. Do you want to try it?: 4.2.0
There is a completely new Textpattern version available. Do you want to try it?: 4.3.0
There is a completely new Textpattern version available. Do you want to try it?: 4.4.1”
and all these entries link to http://textpattern.com/download but I can not opt for automatic update. This sucks, because I have already tried installing it manually, but unfortunately it was not successful. The CSS was not working, only on the 404 page css displayed properly.
Could you guys help me here? Is there a way to do it automatically or is there any tip on the CSS not working properly?
Thank you!

Re: How to upgrade from version 4.0.7?
There is no automatic upgrade, but download the latest version and follow the instructions for upgrading on the download page and you should be okay. CSS problems on the admin side are usually browser-cache related (try CTRL+F5).

if you get used to using svn versions updates get to be far simpler. One command.

Re: How to upgrade from version 4.0.7?
Thank you very much for your replies.
The CSS error was not a cache issue, I had a look at the source code and the linked (php generated file) and it’s output was missing the values.
SVN sounds like a good solution, but I have no experience about this. Could you please instruct me how to achieve this, or could you kindly point me to an instruction page?
Thank you very much.

No, if you can’t do a manual update, you should not even consider using SVN ;)
The Wiki has instructions for a manual upgrade
If that fails, post an URL that displays the problem, so we can help you.

Re: How to upgrade from version 4.0.7?
Dude, no one said I can not do a manual update? I have updated joomla numerous times manually and many other server installations…
I followed the upgrade manual and it did not work out for me… I have been googling for this textpattern css update problem and it seems others have experienced it before… there are even 2 FAQ entries mentioning this – however none of these address my problem…
Ruud, please try to be constructive next time and less rude… Such comment is not really helpful to anyone.

Re: How to upgrade from version 4.0.7?
Hi Andria what ruud says to you is only that if you have difficulties upgrading manually textpattern it s more difficult to use svn because it s for experienced users! (and ruud was one of textpattern devs and one of the helpfull one in this forum)
For your case can you tell us more about what you did for upgrading you website? have you uploaded textpattern files to your server? have you went to http://yoursite/textpattern and what message you get ?

Re: How to upgrade from version 4.0.7?
I wasn’t being rude (at least that wasn’t the intention). Asking you to follow the detailed instruction manual and posting an URL that displays the problem is usually a good way to start diagnosing problems. Those FAQ entries you’re referring to are probably ancient and it’s likely they don’t apply to the current TXP version.

Please think before posting a remark like that. It doesn’t make sense at all.
The CSS was not working, only on the 404 page css displayed properly.
If that is the only problem, it can probably be solved easily. Giving us a link to the site in question would be helpful.
You can also check if you transferred all installation files, see the 4.4.1 File Tree.
