[wiki] [Resolved] Geneology sections in Tag Reference
Are these really needed in tag pages?
They seem like a developer reference (if not just plain pointless) rather than a new user reference, and could (if even needed) be put somewhere else…maybe a single “Tag Geneology” page of it’s own where geneology details are centralized and more easily scanned across tags. Whatever.
Here’s the context…
A new user arrives to the page who has just installed the latest version. They see this “Geneology” section referencing versions backwards. How is that helping them? It’s not! Even I don’t find them useful, and I’m a veteran user, which makes me think this might be a developer tool.
Tag pages only need to communicate what is current functionality. That’s all. When pages are current, they even address what is deprecated on a tag page, because if it’s not there, it’s not supported. That’s the idea. Explanations and lists of outdated stuff are not needed.
Arguments?

I think it’s very useful, because not all users have the most recent TXP version installed and also because those who upgrade their ancient TXP versions don’t always read the release notes, so it helps if they can read about it in the tag reference.
PHP does the same in their function documentation.

Fair enough. I’ll leave them alone.
I think I might have deleted one a while back, but I can’t recall what tag page it was, and it’s not a high priority to hunt it down right now.
If anyone happens to find a tag page with a Geneology section missing, just look at the page history, find the text, copy/paste…etc.
