Sweet! In-topic search will be hugely helpful for those giant threads where you know you read something a year ago about just the problem you happen to be facing at the moment.

Re: Forum update, switched to FluxBB and added in-topic-search

Is somebody working on the in-topic search at the moment? I’m getting crazy results: try “thank” on this thread here or one of thanks, Thanks, Thank: Nada.

Try “sharp” on this thread: no results. sharpen (the complete term) gives 2 results regardless of capitalization.

^^ use a word that doesn’t match at least 50% of the posts in this topic ;)

Re: Forum update, switched to FluxBB and added in-topic-search

Just for the record: It’s not my goal to test the in-topic search to death :) I just came from the ebl thread I linked to above where I had these unexpected results.

^^ use a word that doesn’t match at least 50% of the posts in this topic ;)

I don’t see the threshold value when I try “least” here (1 result for me, well probably 2 after posting this ;) however “regardless” gives 0 results for me.

I suspect that the forum relies on MySQL to get search results. If a keyword appears in more than half of the records, MySQL will ignore that keyword. This makes sense. If the search results are over half the topics that were ever posted, you might as well start reading every topic without searching.

Maybe even when using the in-topic search MySQL is looking at the total number of occurrences in the entire forum? Still, ‘regardless’ is a much used word, but in half of the topics records…?
