Yiannis

They’ve always been responsive to my requests — but then, my requests have never been urgent.

Is Dreamhost’s support ok?

I use their VPS offer for my personal sites. From my experience, they usually are competent and friendly.

NB: They operate at Los Angeles business hours, so their response time for European customers might be in the 12 to 24 hours range.

We have a Dreamhost coupon code (“TEXTPATTERN”) you can use at signup to collect 77 US$ discount and send some referral bonus along our way.

Re: hosts for txp 4.4.1

I can highly recommend the support team at Site5. Very competent, amazing compared to the support I get from some others.

I can’t complain too much about Dreamhost, but there are a lot of positives going for Site5 in comparison, as they’re more of a “Web Designer’s host” and have locations around the world: Server locations

Anyway, just a happy customer. :-)

Here’s another recomendation for Site5. Since I switched to them I’ve had zero issues.

My Plugins

Depends on traffic, not on site count. I think the initial 300 MB are sufficient for less than roundabout 50,000 page views per day on a typical Textpattern site.

Re: hosts for txp 4.4.1

Interesting, I moved from Site5 to Media Temple four or five years ago because of an issue that lost a good client of long standing. He asked me to re-write his site’s zone file fairly extensively so that his company could take on Google Documents. Site5’s Control Panel had a zone file editor that, unknown to me and perhaps to them, wasn’t up to it. It ‘accepted’ the changes but didn’t action any of them. Naturally, the failure wasn’t evident until well after the time the changes should have propagated I got zero support from Site5, not even an explanation of the problem. The client moved on from me and I moved on from Site5. One man’s meat is another’s poison.

I hasten to add that Site5 had recently changed hands at the time, so things may well have improved since then. I have been fine with Media Temple and the support I have had has been timely and relevant to the issue at hand.

Re: hosts for txp 4.4.1

I searched around and found this quote from me.

From my own experiences and what I read from other people, it tends to be a matter of luck more than anything else. Getting provisioned on the right server (which no one ever has any control over) seems to make all the difference.

I guess that isn’t completely true if their customer service is really bad, but overall I think it stands.
