Upgrade woes

I tried upgrading from 4.2 to 4.4.1, but I was getting error messages so I decided to go back to 4.2. The site seems to be working fine, but in the backend all I get is the Textpattern logo. I’m pretty sure I restored all the the 4.2 files correctly. Any ideas on where I went wrong?

Re: Upgrade woes

Keep in mind that 4.2.0 is effected by major security issues that have since then been fixed.

What are those error message? How exactly did you downgrade?

Re: Upgrade woes

Sorry, I didn’t keep track of the error messages. Before upgrading, I made copies from the server of the the textpattern folder, index.php, css.php and htaccess. I downgraded by replacing them.

You didn’t back up your database? You will need to replace your databases contents too with a backup done before updating.

If you don’t have a backup, you will at least have to change the version number in txp_prefs table and if you used TXP to store your CSS you will need to base64 encode the CSS code. If you did log out and log in when updating you will also have to reset your password.

That said, downgrading will put your site and all the data stored on the same server into risk. I wouldn’t recommend downgrading.

Re: Upgrade woes

I tried the upgrade again, and this time everything worked fine. If at first, you don’t succeed . . . try again before pestering people on the forums . . .
