hosts for txp 4.4.1

With the increased/up to date requirements of 4.4.1 could somebody recommend some hosts for up to GB£20/month?

linode.com ($20/month for a VPS… if you’re not afraid to run your own server). I maintain a VPS hosted there. Excellent support (for infrastructural issues, not for maintaining the server, because it’s an unmanaged service).
There are cheaper VPS providers around.

Hmm, increased requirements? Requirements haven’t increased.

Any decent host can run Textpattern, including Media Temple, and the cheaper service like 1&1, Hostgator, Bluehost, Dreamhost etc. Can’t really personally recommend any of those as we (or I for that matter) don’t use any massive global shared hosting providers regularly.

I’ve heard a lot of good about their services. What package do you have, and how is stability and much stress can it handle? How are transfer speeds? Just interested :)

Going the cheapest route isn’t always the best route tho. The cheaper you go, the smaller share you get.

Re: hosts for txp 4.4.1

I have the Linode 1024 package (and backup, which is 25% extra). Transfer is limited to 50Mbps by default, but that can be lifted upon request. I’m using it to host 25+ domains, of which around 5 have TXP installed (one with 250k pageviews/month) and I’m running PHP through CGI (not fast-cgi or mod_php), so there’s a lot of room to optimize for speed, but I don’t have to because I’m averaging below 10% CPU load. Disk space on 15kRPM hard drives in raid 10 config. It’s fast, but limited. I could easily host all this on the smallest package if I removed old web server log files. I like to keep a comfortable margin ;)

For a single website that doesn’t get extreme amounts of traffic, I could work with a $10/month Linode share… if it existed.

They have! I’m still on 4.2 as my server’s mysql is on 4.1.18 instead of the recommended 4.1.7+ for later txp upgrades.

That’s why I’m on a hunt for a server

@ruud Thanks! will be looking into it.
Any other recommendations anyone?

No, the requirements haven’t changed.

v4.2.0 is effected by major security issues. You should update as soon as possible.

mysql is on 4.1.18 instead of the recommended 4.1.7+

4.1.18 is newer than 4.1.7. Not to mention, the minimum requirement is MySQL version 3.23, wheres the recommended version is 4.1.7 or newer.

Yeah, in case 100 or more patches are released, every software, including Textpattern should have leading zeros in every number sequence. v004.004.001 is much more understandable than v4.4.1. Now everyone understands that there is a ten after a nine. Now we just have to figure out what to do when patch number thousand comes out ;)

Re: hosts for txp 4.4.1

So, if you ask a kid: “how old are you” and the kid answers “I’m 9 years old”. You answer “Wow, you’re older than me. I’m only 61 years old. How do you manage to look so young?” ;)
