Updating plugin load order

I’ve noticed that if I recompile a plugin with a different load order & install it on top of an older version, then the load order is not updated in the database.

Is this expected behaviour?

Re: Updating plugin load order

Yes. We assume that load order is a user-defined setting post plugin installation. A plugin author recommends a load order via the plugin meta data.

Fair enough, thanks.

Re: Updating plugin load order

Makes sense.
One could argue that same is true for activating a plugin, yet if you install a newer version you have to manually activate the plugin again. Perhaps that can be changed to work similar to load-order?

Re: Updating plugin load order

Sounds tempting. I wonder what could possibly go wrong, but cannot come up with anything atm…

Re: Updating plugin load order

I must admit, I did wonder why I couldn’t change the plugin order value. One might argue that plugin authors are in a better position to decide the order? But then again … who knows?

Re: Updating plugin load order

I think it’s the user who has to have ultimate control over plugin conflict resolutions with a little guide by the plugin author. No plugin author could forsee all possible plugin combinations on the target site, IMHO.

They do because they can change the order themselves.

With a little guide by the plugin author.

Which is what the supplied plugin order number is – even an updated one.
