Google Realtime
Lately I find myself checking Google’s Realtime feed, I don’t use Twitter myself so it’s a way to keep abreast of the chatter.
Today I saw this gem, a fellow named John Paul Davis gave Robert thoughtful criticism of Textpattern. (There was a response by Robert, it since has been deleted)
Now if we could only get John to elaborate on his criticism, especially since he uses WordPress for most of his client sites.

Yes, “a piece of shit” isn’t very helpful feedback! It’d be good to find out why TXP can’t be bent into shape (or he won’t give it the time of day to do so). Perhaps because the UX isn’t shiny enough.
He’s got some nice design work under his belt in his portfolio; shame his personal site isn’t up to the same grade or I might explore further.

Is that really worth biting?
There are people who share that sentiment about every CMS out there.

Well seeing as there isn’t much talk about Textpattern, if we leave negative comments alone, then it could hurt us in the end.
I know on blogs, many people would defend Textpattern and/or recommend Textpattern when alternatives were asked for. This has also dwindled down, from what I see lately in comment threads.
As an example, you’ll see Matt Mullenweg joining in comments in a lot places, defending his software. Though I’ve hit on WordPress in the past, you have to admire someone, who already has the lion’s share of a market, continue to hammer away.

Bert,
Much respect. I agree with you on a lot of that. For me it’s about picking my battles — engaging someone for a post like that seems a waste of energy.
I’d rather take the same amount of time/energy and post something positive about TXP. If we all up the positive chatter, then unthoughtful comments will never make it out of the noise level.

I agree with you, here’s to hoping more of us start blogging again.

I’m wrapping up the final details on a new site as we speak — already have 2 TXP related posts ready to go.
The portfolio section features a bunch of sites that run TXP as well.

Cool. I thought maybe you were hiding all that stuff on purpose. :)

haha. Nope, just super busy with projects and a 3 year old. I always seem to find something else that needs done first.
