How to change email and why am I a publisher after install ?
Hi,
I just installed TP and went to the user tab – I note the admin tab and the users tab both show the same thing, which makes sense since right now the admin (myself) is the only user I guess(?)
I need to change the email I can not see how. there’s a web page how-to I saw showing how but it’s NOT what I see on my page – I see no way to change it. Also it says I’m a publisher – thought I was the admin. I installed TP and it never said a thing about me being a publisher(?)
I have a screen shot of the page here:
http://ljg.netfirms.com/tp_screen.png
Also regarding the email during the install, WIth Xampp, and it’s Mercury email server, one of the default emails is admin@localhost. TP install will not accept that. It wants eg. the “.com” at the end. I hope when I learn how and try to change the email TP will not enforce the convention with the email like it did during the install.
Thanks. Help appreciated.

Look carefully af your screen shot – there are 6 sub-tabs beneath Admin: Diagnostics, Preferences, Users, Visitor Logs, Plugins and Import. While Textpattern does default to users, you can move to any other sub-tabs with a click.
But since you are on the Users sub-tab, click the gold Edit text at the right side of the line with your user name. That will populate the form higher up on the page. When you make the changes you need, click the Save button just below Privileges.
I can’t say that I have ever used anything other than a full e-mail address in the box but I can’t remember ever having a problem.
As far as your other question, Textpattern has 6 default user roles. Publisher is analogous to Administrator in most systems which aren’t build around the idea of magazine or newspaper publishing.

Re: How to change email and why am I a publisher after install ?
I didn’t see the sub-tab aspect of the page. But now I see it and it makes sense.
I tried to edit my email but TP will not let me do it. I edit out the “.com” and press SAVE but the .com remains – it doesn’t go away. But if I change the com to an org the change will stick. So there’s a regular expression (a pattern rule) that enforces a well-formed email address. Which usually is a good thing…
I was able to change the mail server in Xampp to have a “.com” at the end and it seems to work. So all’s well.
Thanks for the help.

How can you send and receive email from a @localhost address?
Piwik Dashboard, Google Analytics Dashboard, Minibar, Article Image Colorpicker, Admin Datepicker, Admin Google Map, Admin Colorpicker

It may be overkill, but with smd_bio you can store other info for your users besides just email, so you could make a separate field for whatever non-.com thing you want to store.
