A how-to offer for social networking add buttons

I’ve been adding social networking stuff to one of my websites, and I’ve made a nicely-balance article presentational element with those whizzy social network/sharing websites (in this case Facebook, Digg, Twitter, Stumbleupon, Reddit and ShareThis). The end result looks like this:

It’s fairly balanced and has room for the numbers to expand if your articles get very popular. The code lives in your article form, requires external JavaScript to be loaded for the buttons to function and automatically populates the button links with article details (URL, title). None of it is rocket science, but I figured it might be useful to someone who wants to copy & paste without all the ballache.

I was planning on writing-up a how-to article if anyone’s interested – any takers?

Edit: OK, I haven’t forgotten about this, expect a full write-up by the end of July 2011.

That would be nice, thanks. I’m always planning to do the same one day or the other, but never found the time til now. There’s a tip on txptips.com, but not covering details enough. It’s easy to do “rough” hard-coding in article forms, but different services have different api’s and all need popolating with article detail working even in article listing pages, and that’s not trivial.

Consider it added to my ‘to-do’ list – I’ve made a start on the article but it’s proving to be quite large and unwieldy. I’ll update when I have something to show you :)

Facebook and Twitter should be enough.
At least the others may appear with a toggle menu.

I haven’t forgotten about this, some things have cropped up that mean it won’t happen for a while for time reasons, but it will happen.

Thanks for all your interest!

Maybe take up from where this leaves off? TXP Tips: Adding social media buttons to Textpattern

EDIT: I see that zanza mentioned this above, suggesting the article wasn’t enough.
