Re: xpattern.net shut down?

In case anyone reading this got confused,

https://github.com/textpattern/textpattern – is the original

https://github.com/michaelkpate/textpattern – is my “fork”

Anyone can create their own copy of any public GitHub project at the click of a button.

I would be happy with closed source Textpattern. I would be happy with single dev maintained project.

Oh, yes, the golden age of Textpattern back in 20012005 when development was so… vibrant. :)

Personally, I prefer the current arrangement.

Re: xpattern.net shut down?

Though this time, it shouldn’t be frowned upon, but rather encouraged, cause it’s the itch that needs scratching that produces the most code.

Speaking of code, I prefer quality over quantity. A project opened to all contributors without a clear focus and/or leadership can become a mess.

An example of quality over quantity: Ruud’s amazing tag parser is the very reason I use TXP nowadays. And this enhancement is a one man’s work. Talking, forking and sharing is nice, but there are few geniuses out there. Take care of them !

TXP being hobby isn’t really my mentality, it’s not my interest to keep it as one. But as long as it’s their hobby (TXP is not hobby to me), I would like to keep it as one, and not to make their lives any harder by making claims or requirements.

Why don’t you petition to join the core team? Get involved, start steering the boat towards the shore you’d like to land on.

True, but other projects seem to handle it just fine, why can’t we?

hgtv > The lyrics go: Someone’s laughing, someone’s crying. Yeah, about sums it up.

wow, look at me… I really caused a poo-storm. Bert don’t you think you’re being a bit too dramatic here. I kinda said goodbye to xPat, disappointed, years ago when nothing happened. The ideas were pretty damn good, but no one had the time. No harm, no blame.

So do want me to re-up xPat or not? No sense in getting irritated about something when you’re actually being asked you what you’d like to happen.

Dale I was just reading the lyrics to the song, that’s all. As for xPattern, leave it closed, it’s one less web property I have to keep an eye on. As for no one having the time, well let me just leave it there.

Re: xpattern.net shut down?

The repository will still stay up, so that should be all anyone needs to may wish to continue the project. I may still as I need a hobby, and this one is inexpensive.

As I said my interests are different, which makes me really bad fit — first of all. Not my place. My place is elsewhere in the tree.

Thanks mrdale. I was just curious.

(and given the inactivity, your decision is reasonable.)

Re: xpattern.net shut down?

I was checking links on my wiki when forum.xpattern.net redirected to this forum. Did a whois and Robert now owns xPattern.net, interesting.

Re: xpattern.net shut down?

Luckily I was able to catch the dropped domain for a rather moderate bid at a domainsquatter site.

Be forewarned Robert, being associated with xPattern may make you persona non grata.
