Building a sub navigation properly

I’m working on a site, and it calls for some secondary navigation.
What’s the general idea in constructing sub sections?

Is that what categories are generally used for?

Txp Resources might have what you are looking for.

Adi_menu, cnk_section_tree, and yab_navigation_template in particular let you set up subsections for navigation.

I’ve always found that categories work well for sub navs.
