Extract colors from an image and use it like background color
Hi! I want to extract colors from some image and use it in its background like http://veerle.duoh.com/inspiration/ I tried this (see link) but I don’t know how to use the less common or some random colors from its color scheme (of the image): http://www.coolphptools.com/color_extract
Any ideas?
Thanks in advance!

Not sure I understand the question. Are you looking for something like this jquery plugin?

Re: Extract colors from an image and use it like background color
I think the request is different from the (nice, and useful too, from my pov) jquery plugin, Matt. http://www.coolphptools.com/color_extract functionality could be useful in some situation, I agree. I’ve seen this implemented in some WP themes. Even if I don’t use them, I see that as a “wow” functionality for basic user/client, or for some inspiration pages like veerle’s one. I just don’t get where Robhert needs this implemented. In image tabs? In article images? in public side?

Re: Extract colors from an image and use it like background color
Thank you for replying! I wanted to use the “extracted color” in a div. Something like Veerle’s page. (<div style=“background-color:#{extracted color}”>)
Well, I asked to Veerle and she said: “I manually pick a color that I like out of the illustration or picture. I put in the hexadecimal value in a special field in EE”
So, if there is not solution out there, I have to do the Veerle’s way.
What http://www.coolphptools.com/color_extract does is output the “most common” color of an image and show the desired number of colors. So, if I just want to use one color for be used in a background color inside a div it should be the “most common” that usually is a “black” or “white color”… but I want to use a “random” color, so, i think, it would be nice.

Re: Extract colors from an image and use it like background color
I’d thought of creating a plugin similar to my color picker plugin but using the jquery dropper plugin mentioned above. Would that help?
I imagine it would have to display the article image and you could pick a color from it which would then populate a custom field that your article form could put in the div style.

Re: Extract colors from an image and use it like background color
One possible issue is the plugin I mentioned above does not support IE. Let me know if that’s a deal breaker.
