Best approach for multilingual tagging?

I’ve made multilingual sites before and I’ve used tru_tags before but never together.

Does anyone have a good idea for the following:

I have a site with lots of items each stored as an article, each with an unspecified number of keywords (>2 is likely). I’d like to use the normal tagging system à la tru_tags to be able to output subsets of these items (all items with tag-x and so on…).

In a single language that is no problem but this site needs to be in two languages and the tags need to be present in each language. I realise I can assign both German and English keywords/tags to a single article but each article would show lots of unintelligible keywords:

  1. how do I show only the tag names that relate to the language chosen?
  2. how can I create two tag sections with different names, e.g. /topics/{keyword} and /themen/{schlagwort}

Has anyone tried this before?
