Why was Donald879's post deleted?

I went looking for the post where some guy came on here and claimed he was hacked, I wanted to research it a little further.

What I find is that the post was deleted, though it still lives in Google’s cache.

Why was it deleted? I mean it wasn’t a black on eye on Textpattern, in actuality it made us look good that someone would try to fabricate a hack attempt.

Bert, have a look at Jukka’s post #6 in that thread.

No, I didn’t. I just banned the poster.

Re: Why was Donald879's post deleted?

Neither did I. I locked the thread, and Els banned the user (only higher-ups can remove user accounts). If someone deleted the post it was someone from admins or moderators. Why? I don’t know.

Edit. Might be that the removing is caused by a cleaning script; all the old zero-posters have been removed. Don’t know if the script removes posts from banned users, but it’s possible.

The user management script just removes users with zero posts and stale accounts.

Re: Why was Donald879's post deleted?

I left the thread alone too. The original message which Gocom referenced remains in the forum for analysis.

EDIT: which I see Els has already posted. self slap

Re: Why was Donald879's post deleted?

I deleted the topic, because:
  • it didn’t contain any new information (diagnostics and advice given were the same as in another topic)
  • it was obviously fake and having fake reports of TXP being hacked is bad publicity, IMHO.

Re: Why was Donald879's post deleted?

Ruud,

I was going to use the forum post as a lead in for an article I was planning on writing about the security of a little project called Textpattern vs. the well known Wordpress.

No biggie, thanks to Google, I saved the forum thread onto my computer and I can still use it.

Re: Why was Donald879's post deleted?

A followup to this story, cause I like a good mystery.

AllAboutLatvia.com is owned by a fellow named Aleksejs Tapins.

He’s been blogging since 2003, and it shows, the net is littered with Wordpress blogs made by Aleks. Some are now defunct, some have been hacked causing my Avast! scanner to go wild, what fun. I’ve emailed him, and left a comment on his site.

Let’s see what he says, if he fails to respond, I have his Skype number and I’ll give him a call. I know the original thread was deleted, but can someone tell me the IP number used by Donald879 to register?

I don’t think we should publish/provide IPnrs of visitors to this website, not even for spammers.
