Can't transfer old TXP 4.0.6 install from live to local

Hello! I have an old website stil running on Txp 4.0.6 and MLP 0.7.636. Now I’m trying to back-up the old site to my local development server – MAMP – before trying to update TXP to 4.2.0 (unless MLP gets 4.0.3 ready in the meantime…) and MLP to the latest version.

I’ve transferred many TXP installs from live to local and vice-versa and never had a problem, but somehow I can’t get this install to work in MAMP: I upload the db, transfer files to my local directory, change config.php info as I usually do, but when I try to log-in I’m stuck on the language preferences page, and if click on any other tab in the admin panel, the page remains the same, even if URL changes. So for exemple the URL in my browser is http://localhost/mysite/textpattern/index.php?event=plugin but the page I can see is the Lang pref. panel and not the plug-in page.

I tried to disable all the MLP plug-ins(l10n + gbp_admin_library + zem_contact_lang-mlp) but nothing changes, so I guess my problem isn’t related to MLP. Fresh TXP installs run perfectly on MAMP, so I guess it’s not a MAMP issue either. I also tried to transfer the same 4.0.6 install on another live server and it works perfectly, so the problem is just on my local install… I’m quite sure I’m making some big mistake, so any help would be much appreciated.

Are you transferring all the Textpattern files as well? What I am getting at is are the Txp files on your MAMP install also 4.0.6?

Yes, I cloned all the files from the remote server to a new local folder, so I’m sure that all the files belong to the 4.0.6 install. I tried 3 times, every time I deleted all the content, cloned the files via Ftp, edited config.php, and everytime I get the same result.

Hi Caterina,

I transfer TXP sites from local to live & vice versa all the time, and I’ve never seen this problem. I too work on a Mac but don’t use MAMP. Have you tried reinstalling Textpattern 4.0.6 on the local site? I only ever transfer the database, CSS & image files etc between locations – I install/upgrade Textpattern independently.

Hi gomedia, thanks for the suggestion. Actually, I haven’t tried to do a fresh install of TXP 4.0.6, but I think I’ll try. I usually transfer everything (including txp files) and then just update the info in the config.php file, and it works, but I’ll follow your tip and post the result here.
