list of things...
Hi, I wanted to share with all of you a list of things that keep coming up when I present sites created with textpattern to my clients, that maybe can be included in future txp versions, if they are of any interest to more people.
1- Adminside design:
My more “creative clients” always complain about how outdated the admin side looks, compared to other sites they use (wordpress etc…) a new up to date look of the admin side would be great.
2- Admin side customization:
Why not implement a full customization form in the admin side where we can hide or reorder any element? (without using plugins)
3- Image upload:
Most of my clients complain about how complicated it is to upload multiple images in the admin side. instead of showing all the images in the write tab it only shows the ID numbers. Would be great to have a better upload sistem and a way to see all the images in an article. (ofcourse thats when they dont complain about how they like the way blogger or wordpress image upload is).
Those are the most important ones… the ones that made me think of using a different CMS ones in a wile…
Hope it helps!

Re: list of things...
Some thoughts…
1. Can be improved with admin themes. 4.3.0 makes it a little bit easier – and word on the streets is that TXP5 will make leaps and bounds with a completely re-written admin. Devs correct me if I’m wrong here.
2. I feel like bot_write_tab_customize and a little bit of jQuery goes a long way in regards to customizing the admin. Truth be told – I’d love to see a more out-of-the-box method for this as well – but I fear that’s pretty unlikely.
3. Agreed. The admin needs to take a giant leap in the way it handles attaching/inserting media. IMO it’s one of the things that instantly makes TXP feel a bit dated compared to other options. Hopefully some significant changes are on the horizon with TXP5.

Re: list of things...
You are right Renobird, 1 and 2 I can defenetly work on myself per project, but a simpler and out of the box solution would be great!
Any TXP5 feature list around?

I’m not really sure – I’ve just heard some rumblings here and there.

Thanks Jonathan,
I knew I’d seen some detailed info somewhere. After all these years I’m not used to any real information being available on textpattern.com – I always forget to look there. :P

1- Agree with Tom, Just by changing css and images you can go quite far in the admin look customization (Especially in new v. 4.3)
2- Slightly OT, I can only say that the new 4.3 html markup should make bot_wtc faster – I just need some free time to update.
3- I agree with you regarding images, this always bugged me.
BTW I wrote two plugins that try to override this limitation: bot_image_upload and bot_file_upload. They could certainly be improved (I wish I had more time) but can be a temporary solution to the problem

Re: list of things...
- redesign on the cards. In the meantime, if you’ve not tried Vitraux then you owe it to yourself to do so
- as Tom says, not likely in the core, but I’m toying with some ideas to make it easier for plugins
- not entirely in the core. We can’t hope to please everybody (see this post). Though the post is out-dated now, the sentiment remains that whichever method we’d choose for the Write tab / Article Image would not suit someone so we go with the lowest common denominator and make it easy to change via a plugin / theme. The Images tab itself is scheduled for an update and I’ve had a first stab at it already (though it has a long way to go before it’s usable)
